Our Combi Dipslides are a sterile culture medium. You can use them to detect whether any bacteria, yeast or moulds are present in your metalworking fluids. Dipslide testing should be part of your weekly coolant monitoring routine to help you ensure fluid cleanliness and system health. You will also need a Dipslide Incubator for these weekly tests.

Combi Dipslides for Metalworking Fluids x 100 FAQ's
1. Dip the slide into the coolant sample for 10 seconds to ensure saturation.
2. Place the dipslide back into the container and incubate the dipslide for 48 hours to identify bacterial growth.
3. Continue incubation for a further 24 hours to detect yeasts and moulds.

Dipslides are the most common way of checking for bacteria that may be present in metalworking fluids. If left untreated, bacterial contamination can lead to the buildup of harmful bacteria and fungal contamination, which can pose a serious health risk to operators. Dipslide testing should be conducted alongside other checks, including fluid dilution and pH levels, to ensure operator safety, and optimal coolant performance. Our Combi Dipslides should be kept in a cool, dry place (ideally between 8-15 °C) and away from direct sunlight. Dipslides are designed for single use, so you should dispose of them safely after use.
The incubation time for dipslides varies depending on what you’re checking for. Leaving them for 48 hours at 30°C is long enough to allow for bacteria growth. If checking for yeast and mould, allow an extra 24 hours. It’s vital to keep consistent incubation times. That way, you can compare your results accurately.
Our dipslides have a shelf life of between 6-12 months; the expiry date is detailed on the front of the box. Using expired dipslides is generally not recommended, as their reliability may be questionable. Over time, they tend to dry out and degrade, losing their sterility in the process. That means you’re more likely to get inaccurate or unclear results.
